Living History School Day at the Fort

Cannon fire, quill writing and coquina walls: a school-day program inside the oldest fort in the country.

About this event

The fort hands the day over to students: costumed interpreters run cannon and musket demonstrations on the ramparts, teach 18th-century writing, and walk groups through what daily life looked like under Spanish rule. Programs are staggered so school groups and families both get time on the walls, and rangers stay on hand for questions.

What you'll do

  • Watch cannon and musket demonstrations on the ramparts
  • Try on replica soldier gear at the interpretive tables
  • Walk the coquina walls with a park ranger
  • Practice 18th-century writing with a quill
  • Trace St. Augustine on a hand-drawn map
