Riverside Stargazing Night

Free telescope night on the river lawn — Saturn, Andromeda and an ISS pass.

About this event

The museum's astronomy club sets up a dozen telescopes on the river lawn for a free public stargazing night, with views of Saturn, the Andromeda galaxy and a pass of the International Space Station. Planetarium staff run short constellation tours inside, and a meteorite handling table lets visitors hold a piece of the Campo del Cielo fall. Bring a red flashlight and dress for the wind off the river; the event cancels if the sky is more than half clouded.

What you'll do

  • View Saturn through a club telescope
  • Find the Andromeda galaxy with a guide
  • Watch an ISS pass over the river
  • Hold a piece of the Campo del Cielo meteorite
  • Take a short constellation tour in the planetarium
