Hurricane Prep Day: Storm Ready Florida
A free family day of storm science, sandbag clinics and emergency kit giveaways ahead of the season's peak.
About this event
Meet the meteorologists who track Florida's hurricanes and learn exactly what to do when a storm sets its sights on your neighborhood. The day opens with a live hurricane-tracking walkthrough from the National Weather Service team, followed by a hands-on storm science lab where kids build a model hurricane and spin up their own mini vortex. Families can pack a starter emergency kit, watch a sandbag and window-shutter clinic, and sit in on a 20-minute insurance and evacuation-route briefing. Hurricane Hunters crew members will be on hand to answer questions about flying into the eye of a storm, and food trucks will be serving lunch through the afternoon. Free parking on site, and every family leaves with a printed storm-season checklist and a NOAA hurricane tracking chart.
