Composting 101 at the Community Farm

Build a pile that actually heats up in Florida humidity, and take finished compost home.

About this event

A practical morning at the community farm's three-bin system: what goes in, what stays out, and how to keep a pile hot in Florida humidity without it turning sour. Bring a five-gallon bucket and leave with finished compost for your beds, plus the sign-up sheet for the farm's weekly scraps drop-off.

What you'll do

  • Build the right brown-to-green ratio in your own bin
  • Turn a working pile and check temperature
  • Troubleshoot smell, flies and slow piles
  • Take home a bucket of finished compost
  • Sign up for the neighborhood drop-off route
